President Donald Trump issued a blunt and forceful warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during his first term, according to a new book.
The newly released book details the 2024 election and Trump’s return to the White House.
The book, “2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America,” released Tuesday, claims Trump privately told donors in 2024 that he had warned both adversaries of serious consequences if they dared launch military invasions during his presidency.
“I was with Putin and I told him, ‘Vladimir, if you do it, we’re going to bomb the sh*t out of Moscow,’” Trump told donors, according to an audio recording obtained by CNN and cited in the book.
“‘If you go into Taiwan, I’m going to bomb the sh*t out of Beijing.’
“He thought I was crazy… He didn’t believe me either, except 10 percent.
“And 10 percent is all you need.”
The remarks add to Trump’s long-standing claim that his presidency served as a deterrent to global aggression.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, more than a year after Trump left office.
China has since stepped up military provocations around Taiwan but has yet to invade.
In a statement to Fox News, Trump campaign spokesperson Anna Kelly reinforced the president’s position.
“As President Trump has said time and again, Russia never dared invade Ukraine when he was in office,” Kelly said.
“It happened only when Biden was in office.
“Thanks to this President’s leadership, America is once again the leader of the free world, and peace through strength is restored.
“President Trump won on an America First agenda, and he is working hard to implement the mandate the American people gave him.”
The White House did not issue a comment confirming the authenticity of the audio.
The new book was co-authored by Josh Dawsey (Wall Street Journal), Tyler Pager (New York Times), and Isaac Arnsdorf (Washington Post).
It chronicles how Trump secured a comeback victory in the 2024 presidential election, as former President Joe Biden’s team reportedly downplayed and deflected concerns about his cognitive decline.
Trump’s tough talk wasn’t just rhetoric in the book, however.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the president voiced growing frustration with Putin and suggested possible new sanctions as the war in Ukraine drags on.
“We get a lot of bullsh*t thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.
“He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”
The comments signal Trump’s continued effort to thread a needle on foreign policy, maintaining public diplomacy while asserting hardline deterrence behind closed doors.
Critics in the legacy media have tried to frame Trump’s past diplomacy with Putin and Xi as overly friendly or weak.
However, this new account underscores what many of Trump’s supporters have long believed: the 45th and 47th President used unpredictability, blunt warnings, and personal diplomacy to keep America’s adversaries in check and wars at bay.
