Ukraine has agreed to the peace framework brokered by President Donald Trump’s administration to end the nation’s war with Russia, according to reports.
The development marks the most significant movement toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war since Trump returned to office.
The Ukrainian government has reportedly agreed to the peace deal with only minor points still under discussion.
The U.S. delivered its initial 28-point proposal to Kyiv last week, prompting crisis-level talks in Geneva over the weekend.
Officials from both countries drafted a counterproposal during those meetings, accelerating a negotiating process that has also forced European governments to arrange urgent consultations of their own.
The diplomatic push comes amid reports that American and Russian officials, including U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, held talks in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
UK Prime Minister Says Peace Plan Moving Forward
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer addressed the House of Commons on Tuesday morning.
Starmer confirmed progress on what he described as an updated peace framework between Washington and Kyiv.
He acknowledged that the original U.S. draft included points that were “not acceptable,” but also had some very important elements “that will be essential for a just and lasting peace.”
Starmer said the Geneva discussions took “important steps forward” with progress between the US and Ukraine on an updated peace framework.
“I can reassure the House that work is ongoing to refine this plan,” he told lawmakers.
Starmer Outlines Required Conditions
Starmer reiterated that any settlement must meet several core principles:
• “Ukraine’s sovereignty must be maintained”
• “Ukraine should be able to defend herself in future”
• “Matters about Ukraine and its future must be determined by Ukraine”
• “Elements relating to Europe and NATO will need the consent of Europe and NATO members”
The prime minister cautioned that there is “still a long way to go and tough road ahead” but insisted the UK government is “more committed than ever to this cause.”
Starmer Blames Moscow for the War
Starmer emphasized that the burden of responsibility lies squarely on one side.
There’s “only one nation that wants this war, only one nation that launched this illegal invasion,” he said, referencing Russia’s decision to enter Ukraine in 2022.
He also cited Russian casualty estimates, saying:
“In total, more than one million Russians have been killed or injured — all because of the depraved ambitions of one man.”
A High-Velocity Diplomatic Effort
European governments have scrambled in recent days to respond to the rapid pace of U.S.-Ukraine negotiations.
Some European diplomats privately expressing concern that Washington may finalize the framework before the EU reaches internal consensus.
For now, both Washington and Kyiv appear aligned on a path forward .
It’s a development that would have been unthinkable under the previous U.S. administration but has taken shape quickly under President Trump’s renewed diplomatic pressure campaign.
