U.S Attorney Pirro Slams ‘Absurd’ D.C Laws for Coddling ‘Young Punks’ Committing Violent Crimes

U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro vowed Monday to overhaul the District’s lenient criminal justice laws and crack down on what she called a surge of violent crimes committed by young offenders.

The pledge from Pirro aligns with a key part of President Donald Trump’s latest law-and-order push for the nation’s capital.

Speaking at a White House press briefing alongside Trump and Cabinet members, Pirro warned that D.C.’s soft-on-crime laws have allowed “young punks” to get away with serious violent offenses.

Pirro blasted D.C.’s weak laws that she said let armed teens and gang members walk free with little more than probation.

“That changes today,” Pirro vowed.

“I see too much violent crime being committed by young punks who think that they can get together in gangs and crews and beat the [heck] out of you or anyone else,” Pirro said.

“They don’t care where they are.

“But they know we can’t touch them, because the laws are weak.”

Under current D.C. law, juveniles as young as 14 can commit gun crimes with little fear of serious jail time.

Pirro said that must end, taking direct aim at the D.C. Council’s progressive reforms.

“We need to go after the D.C. Council and their absurd laws,” she said.

“We need to get rid of this concept of ‘no cash bail.’

“We need to recognize that the people who matter are the law-abiding citizens — and it starts today.”

The announcement came as Trump unveiled a sweeping public safety initiative that includes deploying hundreds of National Guard troops to D.C.

The Trump administration moved to temporarily take control of the Metropolitan Police Department.

The president said the moves are necessary to “reestablish law, order, and public safety” in the capital city.

The nation’s capital has faced years of violent crime spikes under Democrat leadership.

On Sunday, Trump also vowed on Truth Social to remove the homeless from areas around the Capitol, promising shelter options away from the city center.

“The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote.

“We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.

“The Criminals, you don’t have to move out.

“We’re going to put you in jail where you belong.”

While violent crime has dipped in recent months, the city’s decades of rising crime rates, coupled with a reputation for leniency toward repeat offenders, have fueled calls for the federal government to step in.
