‘The View’ Outraged as Democrat Shutdown Comes to an End: Chuck Schumer’s ‘Days Are Over’

The multi-millionaire co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” have expressed outrage after several Democrats caved and voted with Republicans to end Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) historic government shutdown.

Co-host Sunny Hostin tore into Democratic Party leadership on Monday, declaring that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s “days are over.”

The show weighed in after eight Democrats voted with Republicans on a government funding plan.

Hostin launched into a blistering critique of her own party, accusing Democrats of surrendering after weeks of insisting they would hold the line on Obamacare subsidy extensions.

“This was a choice by Republicans to cut ACA [Affordable Care Act] subsidies,” Hostin said.

“This was a choice by the Republicans to gut the federal government and federal employment.

“Democrats had nothing to do with it.

“I want an opposition party.

“I think the Democrats caved.

“I think the Democrats let down the American people and, like you, Whoopi [Goldberg], I have absolutely no faith that the Republican Party will come to the negotiating table in good faith.”

Her outrage escalated as she scolded fellow Democrats for trusting Republicans at all.

“Shame on you the first time,” she said.

“You do it twice, three times, four times, shame on me.

“Shame on the Democrats for even believing that the Republicans will, you know, even vote on it.”

Hostin then delivered her sharpest blow yet, specifically naming Schumer as the problem.

“So the bottom line is, the Democrats went into, after a blue wave, the American people saying, ‘We do want [an] opposition,’” Hostin raged.

“The working people want the Democratic Party to fight for them.

“And now, they just caved and surrendered.

“I think Chuck Schumer — his days are over.

“And if he cannot keep his caucus together, he needs to go.

“He needs to be replaced,” she said.

Eight senators crossed over to vote with Republicans on the funding measure:

Hostin’s feud with Schumer isn’t new.

During a March interview on “The View,” she accused him of surrendering when he previously joined Republicans to fund the government through September.

“It gives me no pleasure to say this to you, because we are friends, but I think you caved,” Hostin told Schumer at the time.

“I think you and nine other Democrats caved.”

“I don’t think you showed the fight that this party needs right now,” she added.

“Because you’re playing by a rulebook, where the other party has thrown that rulebook away.”

Despite Hostin’s attempts to pressure Democrats, Schumer and most of his caucus repeatedly voted against earlier continuing resolutions in hopes of securing Obamacare subsidy extensions.

The strategy failed.

The government has now been shut down for 40 days, the longest shutdown in U.S. history, a political disaster driven entirely by Democratic infighting.

The development is a huge victory for President Donald Trump and the Republicans, however.
