The World Economic Forum (WEF) has launched an independent review into its chief executive’s interactions with convicted child predator Jeffrey Epstein.
WEF President and CEO Børge Brende was mentioned more than 60 times in millions of newly released Epstein documents published last week by the U.S. Justice Department.
Brende, 60, a former Norwegian foreign minister who has led the Geneva-based organization since 2017, oversees the annual gathering of global political, business, and cultural leaders in Davos, Switzerland.
“The WEF seeks to clarify recent disclosures regarding its president and CEO, Borge Brende, and his participating in three business dinners with Jeffrey Epstein, along with subsequent email and SMS communications,” the forum said.
“In light of these interactions, the governing board requested the audit and risk committee to look into the matter, which subsequently decided to initiate an independent review.”
The organization said it remains committed to transparency and intends to handle the review thoughtfully and efficiently.
According to the WEF, Brende will continue fulfilling his duties at the globalist organization while remaining uninvolved in the review process.
Brende Details Contact with Epstein
Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring a child for prostitution, was convicted of child sex crimes, and served 13 months of an 18-month sentence.
He later faced federal sex-trafficking charges before being found dead in a jail cell in 2019.
In a statement, Brende described the circumstances surrounding his interactions with Epstein, despite the pedophile’s conviction.
“The following year, I attended two similar dinners with Epstein, alongside other diplomats and business leaders,” he said.
“These dinners, and a few emails and SMS messages, were the extent of my interactions with him.”
He added:
“I was completely unaware of Epstein’s past and criminal activities.”
Brende claimed that had he known Epstein’s background, he would have declined both the initial invitation and any subsequent contact.
He also acknowledged he could have conducted a more thorough review of Epstein’s history and expressed regret for not doing so.
The WEF leader said he welcomed the independent review, “which I indeed requested.”
Newly Released Documents Renew Scrutiny of Epstein Network
The Justice Department’s latest tranche of Epstein-related materials spans more than 3 million pages, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images, renewing scrutiny of Epstein’s ties across political, financial, and technology circles.
Many individuals named in the files were also regular participants at the Davos forum, underscoring the overlap between Epstein’s network and some of the world’s most influential figures.
Those referenced include former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, technology leaders Reid Hoffman and Peter Thiel, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, former President Bill Clinton, entrepreneur Richard Branson, and banking executive Ariane de Rothschild.
The WEF’s independent review is expected to examine Brende’s interactions with Epstein and determine whether further action is warranted.
