A New Mexico grand jury has indicted “The West Wing” actor Timothy Busfield on multiple child abuse charges, escalating a case tied to allegations from a television set.
Busfield was charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced the indictment on Friday in a social media post.
Authorities had previously issued an arrest warrant accusing Busfield of misconduct.
The crimes were allegedly committed during Busfield’s time working as a director on the TV series “The Cleaning Lady.”
Busfield has denied the allegations.
He turned himself in to the authorities and was later released from jail.

Grand Jury Declines Grooming Charges
The indictment centers on four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child.
Prosecutors had also sought grooming charges.
However, those were not endorsed by the grand jury.
Busfield’s attorney, Larry Stein, said the grand jury’s decision undermined the state’s broader claims.
Stein did not comment directly on the sexual contact counts.
However, he said the failure to secure grooming charges was significant.
He stated that a prior detention hearing had already “exposed fatal weaknesses in the state’s evidence, gaps that no amount of charging decisions can cure.”
Case Moves Forward
Busfield is best known for his roles in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams,” and “Thirtysomething.”
The case remains pending as prosecutors proceed on the remaining charges.
