A Texas woman has been arrested after customers at two Walmart stores in Biloxi, Mississippi, reported finding razor blades hidden inside multiple loaves of bread.
The shocking discovery prompted a multi-day investigation and warnings to the public, according to local authorities.
The Biloxi Police Department identified the suspect as 33-year-old Camille Benson.
Benson has been charged with attempted mayhem, Fox 26 Houston reported.
She is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Reports began surfacing earlier this month when a customer at the Biloxi Walmart Supercenter filed a complaint on December 5.
The customer told employees they had discovered a razor blade inside a loaf of bread they purchased, according to the Associated Press.
A second complaint came three days later at a nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market.
The situation escalated on December 14, when another Supercenter customer reported the same issue.
Employees then conducted an inspection and located several additional loaves that had been tampered with, the AP reported.
Two more similar reports followed on December 15, according to Fox 26.
Authorities said Benson was taken into custody on Tuesday. A motive has not yet been identified.
Walmart issued a statement urging anyone who believes they may have purchased a contaminated product to discard it immediately and visit their local store for a refund.
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” a Walmart spokesperson said.
“We have removed and thoroughly inspected all potentially affected products at impacted stores in Biloxi.
“We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating with them as they investigate.”
Police said they do not currently believe other Walmart locations have been targeted, but advised customers to inspect any bread purchased within Biloxi city limits for possible sharp objects.
The investigation remains active.
