The Southern Arizona community is reeling from the sudden death of Kelly Pierce, a beloved women’s soccer coach and player who tragically passed away at the age of 43.

The high-profile athlete suffered from an unexpected cardiac arrest, according to local news outlet Tucson.

Pierce, known for her leadership and passion for the sport, left behind a legacy that includes championship victories, a strong commitment to youth soccer, and her dedication to advancing women’s sports.

The coach was a dominant force as the head coach of Salpointe Catholic High School’s girls’ soccer team, leading them to championships in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025.

Her success on the field was a reflection of her deep commitment and skill.

She is remembered as a coach who transformed her players into champions both on and off the field.

Not only was Pierce a successful coach, but she also played a key role in Tucson youth soccer for nearly 20 years.

As a player, she contributed to Salpointe’s state soccer championships in 1998 and 1999, and later went on to coach for FC Tucson and Mountain View High School from 2013 to 2017.

A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication to Gender Equality

Pierce’s impact extended far beyond the soccer field.

He emphasized her role in not just elevating women’s soccer, but all women’s sports, particularly in her advocacy for gender equality.

“Kelly was committed to elevating not just women’s soccer but all women’s sports as a champion for gender equality,” Pearlman told KGUN9, adding that Pierce was a fierce advocate for young female athletes and children in general.

“Most importantly, Kelly was a devoted mother and fierce advocate for not just her children or young female soccer players, but all children.”

Pierce’s leadership and advocacy for gender equality made her a standout in both her professional and personal life.

As the current head coach of FC Tucson Women, Caylee Carter recalled her admiration for Pierce’s strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication.
