Yale Suspends Top Professor Over Disturbing Epstein Emails

A longtime Yale University professor has been suspended from teaching duties after newly disclosed emails revealed he recommended a student for work with convicted child predator Jeffrey Epstein.

The email shows Professor David Gelernter describing the undergraduate’s appearance in striking terms.

Alarmingly, Gelernter later defended the exchange in unapologetic language by arguing that he used sexually-charged terms to describe the student because Epstein was “obsessed with girls.”

Gelernter, a 70-year-old computer science professor who has taught at Yale since 1982, came under scrutiny over an October 2011 email sent to Epstein.

The email was years after Epstein pleaded guilty to child sex crimes.

In the message, Gelernter promoted a Yale senior for a position with Epstein, describing her as a “v small good-looking blonde.”

Professor Defended Email and Referenced Epstein’s Reputation

Gelernter later defended the correspondence in an email to Jeffrey Brock, dean of Yale’s School of Engineering & Applied Science, arguing there was nothing improper about considering “the potential boss’s habits” when recommending a student.

He wrote that mentioning the student’s physical appearance was appropriate because Epstein, “like every other unmarried billionaire in Manhattan; in fact, like every other heterosex male,” was “obsessed with girls.”

“So long as I said nothing that dishonored her in any conceivable way, I’d have told him more or less what he wanted,” Gelernter wrote in the shocking statement.

“She was smart, charming & gorgeous.

“Ought I to have suppressed that info? Never!

“I’m very glad I wrote the note.”

Gelernter also mocked Yale’s investigation into the emails, writing that the university’s evidence came from “a personal, private email, dug out of the dump of Epstein files,” and suggesting it was improper to read private correspondence.

The professor claimed he did not know Epstein was a convicted sex offender at the time he recommended the student.

Yale Removes Professor From Classroom Pending Review

Yale responded swiftly, announcing that Gelernter would not teach his regular computer science courses while the matter remains under review.

“The university does not condone the action taken by the professor or his described manner of providing recommendations for his students,” Yale said in a statement.

“The professor’s conduct is under review.

“Until the review is completed, the professor will not teach his class.”

Gelernter has not issued a public statement addressing the controversy.

Students said the revelations and Gelernter’s defense were deeply unsettling.

Yale senior Kris Aziabor, 21, told the Associated Press:

“I think there was definitely an initial kind of, like, wave of shock… it just sounds ridiculous that one of your professors… is literally in these Epstein files.”

He added:

“What really was the most surprising to me was how he was trying to defend his… past words and past actions.”

Prominent Academic Career Now Overshadowed

Gelernter is widely known in the computing world for helping develop the Linda programming system, which influenced the creation of Java, the third most popular programming language.

His 1991 book “Mirror Worlds” also anticipated elements of the modern Internet.

He also survived a 1993 mail bombing carried out by Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski, suffering severe injuries to his abdomen, chest, face, and hands.

Now, decades into a distinguished academic career, Gelernter has become the latest high-profile figure drawn into renewed scrutiny following the Justice Department’s recent release of extensive Epstein-related documents.

This disclosure continues to expose previously hidden connections across elite institutions.
