GOP Launches First House Committee Probe into Biden over Classified Documents

The House GOP-led Committee on Oversight and Accountability has launched an investigation into Democrat President Joe Biden after classified documents were found in a private think tank office in Washington, D.C.

As Slay Newsย reported, Biden was referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for investigation after the classified documents were found in a private office.

The documents, which reportedly related to Ukraine and Iran dated between 2013 and 2016, were discovered at the presidentโ€™s vice presidential office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington.

The trove of sensitive documents at the University of Pennsylvaniaโ€™s โ€œthink tankโ€ raises serious national security concerns.

Anonymous Chinese donationsย have reportedly beenย givenย to UPenn.

Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer wrote a letter to White House Counsel Stuart Delery that said: โ€œThe Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating President Bidenโ€™s failure to return vice-presidential records โ€” including highly classified documents โ€” to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in violation of the Presidential Records Act.

โ€œUnder the Biden Administration, the Department of Justice and NARA have made compliance with the Presidential Records Act a top priority.

โ€œPresident Biden has claimed he was not going to โ€˜get myself in the middle of whether or not the Justice Department should move or not move on certain actions they could take.โ€™

โ€œThe Committee expects President Biden will receive equal treatment under the law given that he maintained classified documents in his unsecured office for several years with access to an unknown number of people.

โ€œPresident Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, also planned to share an office with an individual affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, which raises questions about who else had access to these highly sensitive documents because of President Bidenโ€™s โ€˜totally irresponsibleโ€™ actions.โ€

Comer gave the White House two weeks to provide the following documents:

โ€œAll documents retrieved from President Bidenโ€™s personal office at the Penn Biden Center;

โ€œAll internal documents and communications regarding the documents retrieved from President Bidenโ€™s personal office at the Penn Biden Center;

โ€œA list of all people who had access to President Bidenโ€™s personal office at the Penn Biden Center;

โ€œAll documents and communications related to the handling of the classified material by President Bidenโ€™s personal lawyersโ€”including but not limited to their security clearance status;

โ€œAll documents and communications between or among the White House and the Department of Justice or NARA regarding the documents retrieved from President Bidenโ€™s personal office at the Penn Biden Center,โ€ the letter said.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has demanded that lawmakers โ€œimpeach Bidenโ€ over the discovery.

Democrats and their allies in the media have been trying toย downplayย the discovery by comparing it to the alleged claim that former President Donald Trump safely stored documents at Mar-a-Lago.

However, Greene explained the stark difference between Bidenโ€™s mishandling of documents compared to the allegations against Trump.

โ€œThis is a very serious situation,โ€ Greeneย toldย C-Span.

โ€œVice presidents cannot declassify documents,โ€ the congresswoman noted.

โ€œAnd the fact that Joe Biden is in possession of classified documents when he was vice president, signals we need to have a serious investigation into this.

โ€œThere is a true two-tier justice system stemming from the department of justice in the way President Trump has been treated โ€” who is allowed to classify and declassify documents.

โ€œPresidents can do that,โ€ she said.

โ€œIโ€™ll echo again; impeach Biden,โ€ she added.

According to CNN:

Among the items from Joe Bidenโ€™s time as vice president discovered in a private office last fall are 10 classified documents including US intelligence memos and briefing materials that covered topics including Ukraine, Iran, and the United Kingdom, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has received a preliminary report on the documents inquiry, a law enforcement source said, and now faces the critical decision on how to proceed, including whether to open a full-blown criminal investigation.
