A 12-year-old girl and her 40-year-old mother were shot during a brazen shooting in New York City.
The child and her mom were among six people wounded in the shooting that unfolded inside a Bronx convenience store Monday afternoon.

Innocent people were shot when the intended targets used the mother as a human shield during the attack, according to police officials.
The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. at G&W Grocery on White Plains Road near East 211th Street in the Gunhill area.
Interim Chief of Department John Chell provided details during a press briefing at the scene.
Two gunmen opened fire on their rivals outside the store, prompting some members of the rival group to flee inside.
As they ran to the counter, one of the intended targets, who was not hit by the gunfire, grabbed the mother and used her as a human shield.
Chell explained the situation further, describing the scene inside the store:
“Some members of this group ran into the store and ran to the counter and were being fired upon, with one of the intended targets — who was not hit — grabbed a mother…as a shield, and she was shot one time in the stomach.”

Shooting happened near 3544 White Plains Rd in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx. No arrests at this time, police are searching for at least three suspects.

The mother was shot in the stomach during the chaotic exchange of gunfire.
The young girl, who was with her mother at the counter, was shot in the leg.
Despite the dangerous situation, the man who used the mother as a shield was unharmed in the incident.
A nearby witness, who was leaving a dollar store at the time of the shooting, told NBC 4 she heard about a dozen gunshots before running for cover.
She later described seeing the injured girl being taken out of the store on a stretcher.
“I saw the girl who was shot,” the witness said.
“They took her out on the stretcher.
“All her family came and they were distraught.”
In addition to the mother and daughter, four men, ages 18 to 21, sustained gunshot wounds to their arms and legs.
Chief Chell confirmed that all victims were transported to nearby hospitals and were in stable condition.
The NYPD has condemned the shooting, calling it a “heartless” attack on innocent New Yorkers.
Chell expressed his outrage at the use of the mother as a shield, describing the action as “cowardly.”
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack.
The two shooters fled the scene and are still on the run.
The NYPD has released vague descriptions of the suspects.
One was wearing a black Nike sweatsuit, while the other was seen in a gray hoodie.
Investigators are also exploring whether the gunmen posted anything on social media moments before the attack, sources told The Post.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify the suspects and bring them to justice.
