Chicago police arrested a 16-year-old boy for committing 12 armed carjackings in 7 hours, according to law enforcement.
The teen was charged this week for the offenses that occurred during an August crime spree, police confirmed.
The suspect was arrested by police on Thursday.
Chicago Police issued a statement that said:
“Juvenile offender charged with 16 felony counts of aggravated vehicle or hijacking armed robbery.
“11 felony counts: vehicle hijacking, aggravated firearm.
“Four felony counts: robbery armed with a firearm.
“One felony count: attempt vehicle hijacking aggravated firearm.
“The above offender was arrested by members of the vehicular hijacking task force on January 12, 2023 in the 200 block of 69th Pl.
“He was identified as one of the offenders who robbed multiple victims and took their vehicles by force while armed with a firearm.”

The incidents occurred within hours on August 20, 2022.
Police listed the following locations and approximate times for each carjacking:
- carjacked a 33-year-old woman in the 8000 block of South Campbell at 12:07 a.m.
- carjacked a 58-year-old man in the 3400 block of West 72nd Street at 1:50 a.m.
- carjacked women, ages 21 and 22, in the 2900 block of South Union at 2:44 a.m.
- carjacked a 50-year-old man in the 6500 block of South Kedzie at 3:25 a.m.
- carjacked a 40-year-old man in the 3700 block of West 82nd Street at 3:40 a.m.
- carjacked a 26-year-old man in the 5600 block of South Albany at 4:30 a.m.
- carjacked a 45-year-old woman in the 5700 block of South Richmond at 4:50 a.m.
- carjacked a 43-year-old woman in the 8600 block of South Halsted at 5:30 a.m.
- carjacked a 31-year-old woman in the 9500 block of South Peoria at 6:08 a.m.
- carjacked a 40-year-old woman in the 8400 block of South Sangamon at 6:12 a.m.
- carjacked a 66-year-old woman in the 6600 block of South Artesian at 6:20 a.m.
- carjacked a 33-year-old woman in the 6700 block of South Washtenaw at 6:45 a.m
