Alaska Governor Accepts Trump’s Endorsement Terms, Drops Hammer on Murkowski

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) has accepted the unique terms that came with President Donald Trump’s endorsement for reelection by agreeing not to support Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in the midterms.

“Please tell the president thank you for the endorsement,” Dunleavy said in the statement.

“With regard to the other issue, please tell the president he has nothing to worry about.

“I appreciate all 45 has done for Alaska and this country.”

Trump announced this week he was endorsing the reelection bid of Alaska Republican Gov. Dunleavy on one condition.

If Dunleavy violates Trump’s condition then the 45th president will rescind his support.

That condition is Dunleavy must not back Murkowski.

“Mike Dunleavy has been a strong and consistent Conservative since his time in the Alaska State Senate,” Trump said.

“I was proud to endorse his first run for Governor, and I am proud to support his reelection, too.

“From his handling of the virus, support of the Constitution—including the Second and Tenth Amendments—taking advantage of all the opportunities Alaska has to offer, and his strong pushback against the Liberal Biden Administration’s attempt to hurt our great Country.

“Alaska needs Mike Dunleavy as Governor now more than ever.

“He has my Complete and Total Endorsement but, this endorsement is subject to his non-endorsement of Senator Lisa Murkowski who has been very bad for Alaska, including losing ANWAR, perhaps the most important drilling site in the world, and much else.

“In other words, if Mike endorses her, which is his prerogative, my endorsement of him is null and void, and of no further force or effect!”

From Anchorage Daily:

Former President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed Republican Kelly Tshibaka in the 2022 Alaska race for U.S. Senate, calling Tshibaka “MAGA all the way” and indicating he will visit the state to campaign for her.

“I look forward to campaigning in Alaska for Kelly Tshibaka,” Trump said in an emailed statement sent via Save America, a leadership PAC created by the former president. “She has my Complete and Total Endorsement!

In the statement, Trump continued his criticism of current Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, calling her “bad for Alaska.”

Tshibaka, the former commissioner of the Alaska Department of Administration under Gov. Mike Dunleavy, announced her run for Murkowski’s seat in March. It will be the first U.S. Senate race in Alaska held under the state’s new ranked-choice voting system, which political observers have said could work in Murkowski’s favor.
