Andrew Cuomo Shocks Democrats, Defends Trump: ‘DOJ Must Immediately Explain the Reason for Its Raid’

Democrat former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has demanded that Joe Biden’s Department of Justice “immediately” explains why it raided President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

Prominent Democrats have been reacting to the news the FBI executed a search warrant on Trump’s Palm Beach residence.

Many are demanding answers from the DOJ and FBI about the move.

Cuomo argued that the raid is being “viewed as a political tactic” while the Biden admin fails to give adequate justification for raiding the 45th president’s home.

“DOJ must immediately explain the reason for its raid & it must be more than a search for inconsequential archives or it will be viewed as a political tactic and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations,” the ex-governor said.

Former 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang also blasted the move as possible “unjust persecution.”

“I’m no Trump fan,” Yang said.

“I want him as far away from the White House as possible.

“But a fundamental part of his appeal has been that it’s him against a corrupt government establishment.

“This raid strengthens that case for millions of Americans who will see this as unjust persecution.

“It seems like this was authorized by a local judge and a particular FBI office without buy-in or notification of higher levels of government.

“But literally no one will believe that or make a distinction.

“It’s probably bureaucratic but it seems political.

“If they raided his home just to find classified documents he took from The White House, he will be re-elected president in 2024, hands down,” one legal expert noted

“It will prove to be the greatest law enforcement mistake in history.”

As Slay News reported earlier, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz blasted the raid as “improper” and “misconduct” by the FBI.

“You don’t engage in a raid unless you’ve exhausted all the other remedies unless you believe that the person rated will destroy the evidence,” Alan Dershowitz said during an interview on Newsmax.

“Raids are not a first recourse in America.

“They are a last recourse.

“And so the government will have to show a court, eventually, that they exhausted all other possibilities, or they had a reasonable basis for believing that the evidence would be destroyed if it was sought in the normal legal course of events through subpoena.

“Raids are a last resort, but today, in many instances, it’s being used as a first resort.

“That’s the way it usually works, but in order to get on television, they have a lot of these raids where people are arrested, put in handcuffs, sometimes put in leg shackles, bail denied.

“Presumption of innocence still applies, but it’s applied only in theory, but not in practice.

“Unless there is evidence that we’re not aware of, this is improper and it is misconduct, and we have to find out what the facts are.

“But we have to make sure that the shoe fits on the other foot,” Dershowitz added.

“We want to make sure that what’s being done here is something that Democrats would not oppose if it were being done for Democratic operatives as well.

“I don’t think it passes that standard.”
