Democrat Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke (D) has paused his campaign after he was hospitalized with a mysterious “bacterial infection” over the weekend.
Beto, a former 2020 Democrat presidential candidate, said he was “feeling ill on Friday” but didn’t elaborate on his condition.
“After feeling ill on Friday, I went to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio where I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection.
“The extraordinary team there — from custodians to nurses and doctors — gave me excellent care and attention, including IV antibiotics and rest.
“While my symptoms have improved, I will be resting at home in El Paso in accordance with the doctors’ recommendations.
“I am sorry to have had to postpone events because of this, but promise to be back on the road with you as soon as I am able.”

According to Politico:
He was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and received care including IV antibiotics, according to the tweet.
O’Rourke, who served three terms in Congress, rose to prominence nationally with his unsuccessful run for Senate in 2018.
He also ran for president in 2020.
He has frequently clashed with his Republican gubernatorial rival, current Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, including a face-to-face confrontation at a press conference following the May school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has maintained a 7-point lead over Democratic nominee Beto O’Rourke in the Lone Star State’s governor’s race, new polling shows.
The Dallas Morning News-University of Texas at Tyler poll showed Abbott’s 46 percent to 39 percent lead over O’Rourke remained steady since May.
Abbott pulled the bulk of his support from the state’s Republican constituents in the new survey, with more than three-quarters saying they “approve” or “strongly approve” of his handling of the governorship — compared to just 22 percent of Democrats.
