Bill Clinton Claims Epstein Was Just a ‘Brief Acquaintance’

Former President Bill Clinton told federal lawmakers during his Friday testimony before the House Oversight Committee that he had no knowledge of the crimes committed by convicted child predator Jeffrey Epstein.

In addition, Clinton downplayed his relationship with the child sex trafficker, claiming Epstein was just a “brief acquaintance.”

Clinton, 79, told members of the House Oversight Committee during a deposition in Chappaqua, New York:

“My brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light, and … I never witnessed during our limited interactions any indication of what was truly going on.”

He added, “I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing.”

Clinton said he was answering questions “to offer what little I know so that it might prevent anything like this from ever happening again.”

Renewed Scrutiny After DOJ File Release

Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring a minor for prostitution.

He was later arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges and died in prison that year while awaiting trial.

A medical examiner ruled his death a suicide.

In January, the Department of Justice released a new tranche of Epstein-related files, including emails and photographs.

Some of the photos showed Clinton with Epstein.

At least three images reportedly depicted Clinton alongside unidentified female victims.

An FBI document included in the release stated that a person believed to be an Epstein victim, whose name was redacted, reported she had been invited to an orgy with Clinton but did not attend.

Separate law enforcement emails said that a victim reported meeting Epstein through another victim.

The other victim had traveled with Epstein and Clinton to Africa.

Flight logs and photographs previously made public show Clinton flew on Epstein’s private plane in 2002 and 2003.

The records show Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet, where much of the abuse is reported to have happened, at least 26 times.

A spokesperson for Clinton has insisted those trips were related to Clinton Foundation work.

The spokesperson also said Clinton briefly visited Epstein’s New York “House of Horrors” residence and noted that Epstein visited the White House during Clinton’s presidency.

Visitor logs show that Epstein visited Clinton’s White House at least 17 times.

Clinton maintains that he never visited Epstein’s private “Pedophile Island,” despite witness statements asserting otherwise.

Following Epstein’s 2019 arrest, Clinton’s spokesperson said the former president had not spoken to Epstein for “well over a decade.”

On Friday, Clinton reiterated that he had long severed ties by the time Epstein’s 2008 guilty plea became public.

“No matter how many photos you show me … I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong,” Clinton said.

Hillary Clinton’s Deposition

Bill Clinton’s testimony came one day after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared before the same committee.

Hillary Clinton told lawmakers she had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and said after the deposition that she never met Epstein and had no connection to him.

She stated she knew Ghislaine Maxwell “casually, as an acquaintance.”

Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime accomplice, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 after being convicted of conspiring with Epstein to traffic and sexually abuse underage girls.

Hillary Clinton said Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding as a front-row guest because she was a “plus one.”

In 2025, Maxwell told Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche that she met Hillary Clinton multiple times at the Clintons’ New York home in connection with work for the Clinton Global Initiative.

Maxwell said Epstein did not have a relationship with Hillary Clinton but that he donated to the initiative and spent time with Bill Clinton.

Maxwell also described herself as friends with Bill Clinton.

He did not mention Maxwell in his opening statement.

Lawmakers React

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told reporters that Hillary Clinton answered most questions but frequently deferred to her husband.

“The number of times that she said, ‘I don’t know, you’ll have to ask my husband,’ was more than a dozen,” Comer said.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) said some specific questions could only be answered by Bill Clinton.

The depositions are part of an ongoing congressional investigation into Epstein’s network and the circumstances that allowed him to operate for years without broader accountability.

Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton has been charged with any crimes related to Epstein, yet.
