Billionaire Bill Gates is calling for all adults over the age of 50 to require COVID-19 vaccine booster shots every six months.
However, the calls from Microsoft founder Gates come after he recently caught Covid himself, despite receiving four jabs of the vaccine.
Gates made the calls during his latest appearance on CNN.
Last week, Gates, 66, revealed that he was infected with the coronavirus.
โIโve tested positive for COVID,โ Gates wrote on Twitter.
โIโm experiencing mild symptoms and am following the expertsโ advice by isolating until Iโm healthy again.
โIโm fortunate to be vaccinated and boosted and have access to testing and great medical care.โ
Gates caught the virus despite receiving four doses of the vaccine โ two original doses and two booster shots.
CNN host Anderson Cooper told Gates that he had โonly gotten three shots total,โ but had also beenย infectedย with COVID-19 in April.
โSo Iโve been trying to figure this out for myself, but I assume you know the answer to this, so Iโll just ask you, when do you get boosted again?โ Cooper asked Gates.
Gates responded, โYeah, so an infection where youโll get a high viral load would be like vaccination, but you know to be safe, every six months youโre probably going to be vaccinated.โ
โFor people who are 50 or 60, they will probably have to be boosted every six months until we get even better vaccines,โ Gates said during a Friday night appearance on โAC360.โ
โAs we get more data, they might even make that shorter for people, you know, say 60 or over 70, where the duration seems to be a bit lower,โ Gates continued.
โSo weโre in for ongoing vaccination to stay absolutely safe.โ

On the topic of COVID vaccine hesitancy, Gates said, โWell, the hesitancy did go down somewhat, you know, initially it was like at 60% of the population, but as they saw their friends getting vaccinated and very rare side effects, as they saw their friends being protected and the people with severe disease were overwhelmingly the unvaccinated, most people came around.โ
โNow, the U.S. still has a lower full vaccination rate than many other countries, so we still need to figure out: Who do those people trust? Are they open-minded?
โBecause itโs to their benefit and to the people around them,โ he continued.
โSo Iโm surprised that the U.S., itโs been this tough, and, you know, even somewhat a political thing.โ
Gates addressed the conspiracy theory that he is pushing vaccines to make a profit.
โYou know, weโve given billions for vaccines and saved millions of lives,โ heย stated.
โIf you just kind of invert that and say, โNo, weโre trying to make money from vaccines, you know, not trying to save lives,โ thatโs a popular conspiracy theory.โ
Earlier this month,ย Gates made headlines for admittingย that COVID is โkind of like flu.โ
He also conceded that the vaccines are โimperfect in two very important ways.โ
