Hollywood star Alec Baldwin threw a temper tantrum at the 2023 PEN America Spring Literary Gala last week and berated a waitress, calling the shocked woman a “peasant” as she walked away.
The woman spilled the beans on Baldwin’s disgraceful behavior to the New York Post but wishes to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.
She said: “I’m a sweep leader which means I basically tell the waiters when to put down the plates and we have to do it in a certain order.
“I was going to feed the head of the table but that’s who he was talking to, so I go up to him and I say, ‘I’m sorry sir, but we’re going to have servers walking through the tables here in a minute.’”
Alec didn’t like that and said, “So when is it a good time to talk to my friends?”
The working woman was shocked at Alec’s rudeness as she “did not expect that kind of reaction” and claimed the Hollywood hothead was “very agitated.”
She said he said, “Do I have to explain it to you?”
She said ‘no’ trying to de-escalate the situation.
“Well then step aside,” Alec said.
She said:
“Afterwards, many of my co-workers came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what he said while you were walking away?’
“I didn’t catch it because I was focused on my work but apparently he was calling me a peasant,” she claims, and was “clearly mad that I told him kindly, ‘Excuse me.’
“I said, ‘Excuse me,’ to Colin Jost and he was nothing but sweet about it.
“‘He said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry’ and stepped aside.
“So I know it’s not a celebrity thing.
“Maybe it’s people’s upbringings?
“Who knows what makes bitter people bitter.”
“I approached him nicely, I was basically doing my job,” she said.
Earlier news reports claimed Baldwin ‘scolded’ the woman.
According to Page Six:
A spy tells Page Six exclusively that the actor allegedly berated a female server leaving her “looking shocked.”
The spy claims that the drama began to unfold when Baldwin, 65, stood up to chat with someone a couple of minutes before “the line of servers come all at once to deliver the meals.”
One female server — who “was probably in her late 20s or early 30s” — was stuck behind the actor because he was standing and talking.
“Then, when she could pass, she started putting plates on the table,” the insider says.
“I’m guessing he felt it was rude of her to start putting plates down while he was standing there,” the insider theorizes, noting that Alec’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was not present for the icy exchange.
“It was quick,” the source adds.
“I think it went unnoticed for the most part.”
