President Donald Trump has been found guilty in the trial for his so-called “hush money” case.
Trump has been found guilty of 34 counts brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.
The charges were connected to allegations of falsifying business records relating to payments to the porn star Stormy Daniels.
The jury’s foreperson held a firm tone of voice as they delivered the verdicts.
Reporters in court said Trump himself did not really change his demeanor outside of looking down.
Trump is the first former or current president to be convicted of criminal charges in U.S. history.
The 45th president has solid grounds for appeal due to the extremely biased nature of the proceedings.
However, the appeal process would be unlikely to resolve the case before the November election.
Throughout the trial, prosecutors had failed to provide any evidence to support the allegations against Trump.
Instead, they sought to use salacious testimonies from questionable witnesses who sought to smear Trump before the jurors.
Nevertheless, the odds were stacked against Trump from the beginning.
The trial has been unfolding in deep-blue New York City, making for a difficult jury.
The judge overseeing the case, Justice Juan Merchan, was also revealed to be a donor to President Joe Biden.
Merchan has also made past donations to radical anti-Trump political groups.
In addition, his daughter Loren Merchan, for closely on the election campaign for top Democrats, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and the Biden-Harris campaign.
Despite the clear conflict of interest, Judge Merchan refused to recuse himself from the case, suggesting a troubling ulterior motive.
With Merchan now preparing to issue sentencing in the case, it will not likely go in Trump’s favor and will be expected to be extreme.
Todd Blanche, Trump’s defense lawyer, made an argument to the judge for a motion of acquittal.
“There’s no basis, and there’s no way that this jury could have reached a verdict… without the testimony of [Michael] Cohen,” Blanche asserted.
Blanche says there’s no reason a court should allow a verdict knowing that Cohen had previously admitted to committing perjury.
“Your motion is denied,” Merchan swiftly declared.
Speaking outside the courtroom, Trump blasted the ruling.
“This was a rigged, disgraceful trial,” Trump said.
“And the real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people,” he adds, referencing the looming U.S. election.
“We didn’t do anything wrong.
“I’m a very innocent man, and it’s okay.
“I’m fighting for our country.”
The judge has sent Trump’s sentencing hearing date for July 11 at 10 am local time.
Interestingly, that falls just four days before the beginning of the Republican National Committee.
This is a breaking news story.
