“Woke” WNBA star Brittney Griner has claimed that her doctor is to blame for her getting caught trying to leave Russia with drugs in her bag.
After a hearing near Moscow on Friday, one of her lawyers said Griner was recommended cannabis to treat her pain.
Griner was caught in Russia carrying cannabis cartridges and faces a long prison sentence.
As Slay News previously reported, she pleaded guilty to drugs charges last week and now faces ten years in a Russian prison.
“Among the medical documents is a doctor’s appointment for the substance that Britney Griner inadvertently left among her belongings when crossing the border,” said Maria Blagovolina following Griner’s fourth hearing.
“Our task today was to tell the court about her characteristics as an athlete, as a person — tell about how she played a big role in the success of the Ekaterinburg club and Russian women’s basketball as a whole,” club director Maxim Rybakov said.
“Today is the first day when we have seen our basketball player since February,” Rybakov added.
“Thank God, she feels well, looks good.”

Player Evgenia Belyakova said:
“Brittney has always been a very good teammate, so my role here is just to be with her, to support her.
“We miss her very much, we miss her energy.
“I was very happy to see her, and I hope this trial will be over soon and with a positive outcome.”
Elizabeth Rood, the Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, said:
“It became clear in the past few days that there’s tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Brittney’s character and integrity both in Russia and in the U.S.
“And we reaffirm our commitment to bring back home Brittney and all the American citizens detained abroad.”
One of her lawyers, Alexander Boikov, told reporters earlier that Griner was in a hurry as she was packing and the vape cartridges ended up in her luggage by accident.
