Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was assaulted Thursday morning in her Washington, D.C., apartment building, her office revealed.
Her chief of staff Nick Coe said this was not a politically motivated attack, just more random crime in a Democrat-run city.
Coe said his boss fought off her attacker and suffered bruising from the assault.
She was attacked in the elevator of her apartment building on her way to work.
Coe said in a statement:
“This morning around 7:15 AM representative Craig was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment in Washington DC. Representative Craig defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically OK.
“Representative Craig called 911 and the assailant fled the scene.
“There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated.
“Representative Craig is grateful to the DC metropolitan police department for the quick response and ask for privacy at this time.”
