BLM-Backed Democrat Indicted on Federal Wire Fraud Charges, Faces 20 Years in Prison

A top Louisiana Democrat, who is backed by the Black Lives Matter PAC this election cycle, has been indicted on federal wire fraud charges.

Karen Carter Peterson is a former Louisiana State Senator and chair of the state Democratic Party.

According to Fox News, the Black Lives Matter PAC, a BLM Global Network Foundation-affiliated committee, pumped more than $100,000 into Karen Carter Peterson’s failed campaign for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional district.

She was charged with wire fraud in federal court earlier this month for using campaign funds and funds available to her as the state’s Democratic Party chairwoman to fund her gambling and other personal expenses.

Her crime involved diverting campaign and party funds to friends and associates, who would cash checks Peterson provided them and return most, or all, of the money to her, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The scheme went on for nearly seven years between 2012 and 2020, prosecutors added.

Peterson faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Her lawyer told KPLC-TV that she has entered into an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty.

Peterson is scheduled to reappear in court on August 1.

“Today marks an important step in my life-long recovery as I continue to address my gambling addiction,” Peterson tweeted the day charges were filed earlier this month.

“I sincerely apologize for the impact from my compulsive behavior resulting from this addiction.

“I have made full repayment of funds used as a result of my addiction and I will continue to make amends,” she added.

“Staying true to the steps of my ongoing recovery, I have been forthright, honest, and fully cooperative with the US Attorneys’ Office in their investigation.”

BLM and its associated groups have been under intense scrutiny over how they handle funds.

Since the outburst of far-left rioting in 2020 surrounding the murder of George Floyd, Black Lives Matter has become a multi-million-dollar organization.

A recent BLM tax filing showed the group was dolling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to individuals close to the organization’s leadership.

The tax filings also showed BLM gave $200,000 to a Chicago-based nonprofit whose leader has called cops “pigs” and “sick f—ks,” insisted “we have to defund these b—ards,” and celebrated violent protests, including the burning of a Minneapolis police precinct.
