Democrat Mayor Arrested on Felony Burglary Charges

A socialist Democrat mayor has been arrested on felony burglary and criminal trespassing charges in Georgia, according to reports.

South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau was arrested early Saturday morning after he was reportedly caught breaking into a home by an armed homeowner.

Kamau was booked into Fulton County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary and criminal trespass.

The mayor was released Saturday evening on an $11,000 bond, according to local media reports.

“I do want to thank the South Fulton police and the staff of officers for their courteous and professional service throughout the day,” Kamau said.

The Democrat mayor told police that he broke into the home because he was interested in buying it.

There is no known record to indicate that the house is for sale, however.

FOX 5 provided details about the arrest:

On Sunday, the South Fulton Police Department released the police report that led to the mayor’s arrest.

In the official document, it states the homeowner received a surveillance notification that someone was walking onto his Cascade Palmetto Highway property at 6:52 a.m.

The owner told police he watched that person, later identified as the mayor, walk up his driveway and enter his lake house.

He told police that he couldn’t see what Kamau was doing inside the house, so he called 911.

Five minutes later, Kamau walked out and the owner approached him, telling him to “stay put.”

“I don’t have to listen to you, and you can’t give me orders,” Kamau responded, according to record.

The owner said he did not identify himself as the mayor of South Fulton until the owner took out a gun and held it by his side.

“Do you know who the f— I am,” the mayor yelled at the owner, according to the report.

“I’m the mayor, and I’ll wait for my police force to get here and see what happens then.”

When police arrived to the scene, they said Kamau’s recollection of the events differed.

Kamau told local media he “just wanted to see the house” and he “thought it was abandoned.”

Channel 2 Action News also covered the story:

According to the report, Kamau told police he was on his way to the dog park when he decided to stop and look at the house.

Kamau said in the report that the home on Cascade Palmetto Highway is his dream home and that he would like to purchase the property.

He told police he knew he was trespassing on the homeowner’s property.

According to Kamau’s account in the report, when he was walking out of the lake house, the homeowner stated, “No motherf***ker, you stay right there.”

Kamau said in the report that he tried to introduce himself, but the homeowner cocked his weapon and said, “If you take another step, I’m going to shoot you,” to which Kamau responded, “Are you going to shoot me while I’m walking away?”

Kamau said in the report that he then told the homeowner who he was and apologized.

Kamau was charged with criminal trespass and first-degree burglary and booked in the Fulton County Jail with a $11,000 bond.

He was released later that day.

The city of South Fulton released this statement about the incident:
