Republican Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, is retiring from Congress and will not run for reelection.
Nunes will be assuming a leadership role in President Donald Trump’s new social media company, according to media reports.
According to the New York Post, “The source added that Nunes — who was seen as the frontrunner to become chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee if the GOP regained the majority after next year’s midterm elections — is expected to be named CEO of the former president’s new social media platform.”
Politico reported, “Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), a close ally of former President Donald Trump and the former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, will leave Congress, a person close to the 10-term Republican confirmed.”
Well-connected Congressional reporter Jake Sherman said: “Devin Nunes is retiring.
“He was in line to be Ways and Means chairman in the House Republican majority. He is “rumored” to be taking a job with the Trump media start-up.
“Nunes called McCarthy, Scalise and Stefanik — GOP leadership team — today to tell them of his plans to retire at the end of 2021.”
From The New York Post:
More than 60 percent of registered Republicans said they plan to use former President Donald Trump’s yet-to-be-released social media platform, TRUTH Social, according to a new poll.
The Morning Consult/Politico poll of 1,999 registered voters found that 61 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of Trump voters plan to log on to the platform either “a lot” or “some” of the time.
Just 20 percent of Republicans said they don’t plan to use it at all, while 19 percent said they won’t go on the site “much,” according to the poll.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 22 and Oct. 24.
When it came to Democrats, 72 percent said they don’t plan on using the site at all, while just 7 percent said they’ll use it a lot and 11 percent plan to use it some, the poll found.
