Democrat President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief has admitted that Vice President Kamala Harris has done nothing to help the crisis at the border.
Contradicting previous claims from the White House, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed that Harris has not been directly involved in the southern border crisis.
In fact, Mayorkas seemed to be completely unable to describe exactly what it is that Harris actually does.
The vice president has ostensibly been in charge of the border crisis for months now but she seems to have done absolutely nothing in that role.
Mayorkas can’t say that Harris is directly involved
Kamala Harris has been having a difficult time lately.
Most Americans dislike the vice president both as a person and in her vice presidential role.
That is hardly surprising given that Harris was only chosen as a running mate in the first place because the Biden campaign felt that it needed to pair him with a black woman.
Harris never had any qualifications which suggested that she would be capable of taking charge of the border crisis, despite claims from Biden that she was the perfect person for the job.
Harris has notoriously neglected to spend any amount of time at the border which she has supposedly been given responsibility for securing.
Alejandro Mayorkas has now admitted before Congress that Harris is not even directly involved in decision making at the border.
He stated that he has met with the vice president “more than a handful of times.”
Specific policies related to border security apparently never came up during those few meetings; Mayorkas confessed that he has never discussed several crucial policies with the vice president.
Not good for the vice president
Despite his attempts to defend her level of involvement it is clear that Mayorkas knows that Harris has had a negligible role in handling the border crisis and illegal immigration in general.
He claims that the vice president is focused on the “root causes” of illegal immigration rather than securing the border physically.
That claim doesn’t do much for Harris given that illegal immigrants are still choosing to leave their countries and come to the United States in unprecedented numbers.
Practically Mayorkas was simply trying to cover for the vice president without explicitly admitting that she has accomplished nothing of note during her time in office so far.
The implication of his remarks, however, is that the root causes of illegal immigration and the physical security of the border are two separate issues.
In reality, immigrants are coming to this country in huge numbers because they believe that Biden and Harris are doing nothing to physically keep them out.
Mayorkas is not doing the vice president any favors by suggesting that she is not aware of this basic fact.
