Trump Goes Scorched Earth to Clear GOP Primary Field Ahead of 2024 Announcement

President Donald Trump went scorched earth yesterday to clear the GOP primary field before his big announcement about 2024.

Trump has scheduled an announcement for November 15, which is widely regarded to be confirmation of his presidential campaign.

Some Republican governors performed so well in their respective elections on Tuesday that many are putting them in 2024 contention.

Outgoing Maryland GOP Gov. Larry Hogan, a frequent critic of Trump, told CBSโ€™s Robert Costa the election results make him more likely to seek his partyโ€™s presidential nomination in 2024.

โ€œIโ€™ve been talking about a bigger tent,โ€ Hogan said.

โ€œAnd we need that.

โ€œI think there is a battle for which direction the Republican Party will go.

โ€œMy side of the party had a really good night.

โ€œTrumpโ€™s side did not.โ€

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is being discussed more than any other potential challenger for Trump, however.

The corporate media and some Republicans have tried to blame the lack of a red wave on Trump while pushing DeSantisโ€™s name forward.

However, the GOP has likely won the majority in the House and could still take the Senate, while the candidates endorsed by Trump mostly won their races.

Trump issued a scathing response to those pointing the figure at him and suggesting DeSantis should replace him, reminding his critics that taking him on will not be easy:

โ€œNewsCorp, which is Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and the no longer great New York Post (bring back Col!), is all in for Governor Ron DeSanctimonious, an average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations, who didnโ€™t have to close up his State, but did, unlike other Republican Governors, whose overall numbers for a Republican, were just averageโ€”middle of the packโ€”including COVID, and who has the advantage of SUNSHINE, where people from badly run States up North would go no matter who the Governor was, just like I did!

โ€œRon came to me in desperate shape in 2017โ€”he was politically dead, losing in a landslide to a very good Agriculture Commissioner, Adam Putnam, who was loaded up with cash and great poll numbers.

โ€œRon had low approval, bad polls, and no money, but he said that if I would Endorse him, he could win.

โ€œI didnโ€™t know Adam so I said, โ€˜Letโ€™s give it a shot, Ron.โ€™

โ€œWhen I Endorsed him, it was as though, to use a bad term, a nuclear weapon went off.

โ€œYears later, they were the exact words that Adam Putnam used in describing Ronโ€™s Endorsement.

โ€œHe said, โ€˜I went from having it made, with no competition, to immediately getting absolutely clobbered after your Endorsement.โ€™

โ€œI then got Ron by the โ€˜Starโ€™ of the Democrat Party, Andrew Gillum (who was later revealed to be a โ€˜Crack Headโ€™), by having two massive Rallies with tens of thousands of people at each one.

โ€œI also fixed his campaign, which had completely fallen apart.

โ€œThe Fake News asks him if heโ€™s going to run if President Trump runs, and he says, โ€˜Iโ€™m only focused on the Governorโ€™s race, Iโ€™m not looking into the future.โ€™

โ€œWell, in terms of loyalty and class, thatโ€™s really not the right answer.โ€

Trump said of Republican Virginia Governor Glen Younkin, who many think may enter the 2024 race:

โ€œYoung Kin (now thatโ€™s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesnโ€™t it?) in Virginia couldnโ€™t have won without me.

โ€œI Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, got MAGA to Vote for him โ€“ or he couldnโ€™t have come close to winning.

โ€œBut he knows that, and admits it.

โ€œBesides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia โ€“ But heโ€™ll get it done!

โ€œThis is just like 2015 and 2016, a Media Assault (Collusion!), when Fox News fought me to the end until I won, and then they couldnโ€™t have been nicer or more supportive.

โ€œThe Wall Street Journal loved Low Energy Jeb Bush, and a succession of other people as they rapidly disappeared from sight, finally falling in line with me after I easily knocked them out, one by one.

โ€œWeโ€™re in exactly the same position now.

โ€œThey will keep coming after us, MAGA, but ultimately, we will win,โ€ Trump said.

โ€œPut America First and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.โ€
