Explosion Rocks Hoover Dam in Nevada

The Hoover Dam in Nevada has been rocked by a huge explosion, according to reports.

Police in Boulder City, Nevada have been dispatched to the dam following reports of an explosion Tuesday morning.

Videos posted on social media showed a large plume of smoke and a fire at the base of the dam.

The city of Boulder City said on social that the fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived.

It referred all questions to the Bureau of Reclamation and Hoover Dam.

“The fire was extinguished before Boulder City Fire Department arrived on scene,” city officials said in a statement.

According to The Daily Mail:

“The Hoover Dam sits on the border between Nevada and Arizona, about 30 miles outside Las Vegas.

“Constructed in the 1930s during the Great Depression, it impounds Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the US by volume when full.

“As both an iconic American structure and a piece of critical infrastructure, Hoover Dam has long been tightly protected against potential attacks.”
