Doctors in Florida are complaining that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is blocking them from performing life-altering sex-change surgeries on children.
Gov. DeSantis and his administration are cracking down on such extreme forms of transgender treatments for kids.
Often referred to by the “woke” Left as “gender-affirming care,” treatments include surgery to remove or alter a child’s genitals and powerful puberty-blocking drugs.
The treatments are life-changing and often irreversible.
However, medical professionals and some parents in Florida are complaining that DeSantis has made it much harder to perform the highly controversial treatments on kids.
Florida’s medical board has begun the process of banning certain “gender-affirming medical treatments” for children and adolescents.
The move comes following guidance from the Florida Department of Health.
The Health Department recommends against giving puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender reassignment surgery to anyone under 18.
DeSantis has said he would support legislation preventing children from undergoing gender-transition surgeries.
As a result, gender-transition surgeries for children are being canceled.
Several pediatric clinics and hospitals in Florida have also now stopped prescribing puberty blockers and hormones for children, Michael Haller, chief of pediatric endocrinology at the University of Florida, told the Tampa Bay Times.
Haller accused DeSantis of “interfering” in doctors’ ability to give “gender-affirming care” to minors.
“This is another example of politics interfering with the inviolability of the doctor-patient relationship,” Haller told the Times.
“I expect to see additional situations in which patients are forced to seek care outside of our state.”
As Slay News recently reported, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been demanding that sex-change treatments should be readily available for kids.
However, it emerged that the ACLU is pushing for the chemical castration of transgender children after previously fighting against the use of the same drugs for sex offenders.
The ACLU is now advocating for kids to be able to take the chemically castrating drugs as puberty blockers.
“We have seen a dangerous trend in recent years of medical societies and associations in the United States, along with the federal government, mixing politics and medicine when it comes to the treatment of gender dysphoria,” Florida’s Health Department spokesperson Brock Juarez said in a statement.
“It is imperative that the medical community ensure their focus remains on the actual evidence.”
