California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has mocked the “open process” that his party used to “switch” President Joe Biden with VP Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee.
Just days before the Democratic National Convention kicked off, the Democrats replaced Biden with Harris without a vote.
Newsom responded to the “switch” by mocking the undemocratic process.
Although he cracked a few jokes about it, Newsom did not appear to be completely thrilled about the arrangement.
Before Harris was selected, Newsom had, at one point, been rumored to be on the short list of potential Democrat candidates to replace Biden if he dropped out of the race.
Newsom also appeared to believe the hype as he launched a shadow campaign.
The Democrat governor joined the hosts of the podcast “Pod Save America” while at the DNC, and they pressed him about “the switch.”
“How are you feeling about the switch?” one of the hosts asked Newsom.
“I mean … the switch,” Newsom shrugged and laughed.
“Now, we went through a ‘very open process,’ a ‘very inclusive process,'” he joked.
“It was bottom-up, I don’t know if you know that.
“Yes, that’s what I’ve been told to say.”
The hosts laughed at Newsom’s exaggerated tone.
“It was a blitz primary, I believe that’s what we called it,” one of the hosts said.
Another host chimed in, “A very very fast blitz.”
“A 30-minute convention,” Newsom continued.
“You know, between a tweet and then another tweet,” he said of Biden dropping out of the race and endorsing Harris via a post on X.
“It’s amazing how it happened,” one of the hosts laughed.
“Yeah, it’s been amazing, but you know what is amazing is how unified everybody is,” Newsom concluded.
“I mean, it’s next level.”
