A Republican congresswoman has introduced an amendment seeking to slash the salary of Democrat President Joe Biden’s White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to just $1.
In justifying the move, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) accused Jean-Pierre of having “repeatedly lied to the American people.”
Tenney’s proposal was an amendment to the H.R. 4664 appropriations package, the $25 billion Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act of 2024
“During Miss Jean-Pierre’s tenure as press secretary, she has repeatedly lied to the American people and acted in a condescending manner toward reporters, and also violated the Hatch Act,” Tenney stated.
Tenney (R-NY) introduced the amendment to reduce Jean-Pierre’s salary on Thursday.
The New York lawmaker explained that the press secretary has abused her position by constantly spewing misinformation to the American public.
She also accused Biden’s spokeswoman of mistreating reporters and hating the Jewish people.

I rise today to offer an amendment to reduce the salary of Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary, to $1.
Mr. Speaker, during Miss Jean-Pierre’s tenure as press secretary, she has repeatedly lied to the American people and acted in a condescending manner toward reporters, and also violated the Hatch Act.
Just to name a few of her lies, Miss Jean-Pierre has claimed, one, illegal immigration is down under the Biden Administration.
She also claimed nobody is just walking in across the southern border. She also claimed that the 2016 election was stolen.
She also claimed that Governor Brian Kemp stole the 2018 governor’s race from Stacy Abrams.
She also claimed that Biden’s stimulus bill did not impact inflation.
She also claimed that critical race theory or its equivalent isn’t being taught in our schools.
She also claimed that nobody has done more for the southern border or our border in general than Joe Biden.
How can somebody with such a history of deceit continue to serve as the liaison for the president and the American people?
The American people should not be forced to pay the salary of an individual who dispenses bold-faced lies to the American people while they foot the bill.
Miss Jean-Pierre also a history of anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist rhetoric. For example, she called AIPAC racist and Islamophobic for supporting Israel.
She wrote an op-ed stating that pro-Israel policies and values are not progressive values, which I think many of her Democratic colleagues even would contest.
Mr. Speaker, I urge all colleagues to support this common-sense amendment to use the Holman rule to reduce Karen Jean-Pierre’s salary, the White House Press Secretary, to $1.

Following its introduction, Democrat Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) pushed back against the proposal.
Hoyer claims the move is “another unserious amendment” from Republicans.
Tenney responded by asserting that it was put forward in good faith.
According to congressional reports, Jean-Pierre currently brings home a yearly salary of around $155,000 to $180,000.
“The House defeated Tenney’s amendment, 165-257,” RollCall reports.
The bill was ultimately withdrawn before a final vote.
Jean-Pierre’s responses to media questions about the Biden administration have been an ongoing point of controversy.
Earlier this week, Jean-Pierre left the White House briefing stunned when refused to respond to a reporter asking about subpoenas issued by the House Oversight Committee for Hunter and James Biden.
