Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris has been met with a backlash after announcing that she will be joined by her running mate Tim Walz for her first interview since launching her campaign.
Americans have been waiting with bated breath to hear how Vice President Harris will perform when being interviewed.
However, when Harris finally agreed to sit down with CNN’s Dana Bash, her campaign revealed that it would not be a solo interview.
The Democrat campaign has taken the suspicious step of ensuring that Walz is there to hold Harris’s hand during the interview, despite it mostly being loaded with pre-planned softballs.
While the Harris campaign wasn’t in any way deluded enough to put Harris in front of an interviewer who was likely to do anything beyond pitch her softballs the entire interview, she is, finally, going to be interviewed, as Breitbart News reported.
Alex Marquardt, the host of CNN’s “Situation Room” and the Chief National Security Correspondent, announced on Tuesday that Harris would be conducting her first interview as a candidate a joint interview with Walz on Thursday.
This will also be the first time that the two candidates have conducted an interview together as a ticket and the first time Harris has spoken with the media.
According to CNN Political Director David Chalian, Harris and Walz will be interviewed by CNN Chief Political Correspondent and anchor Dana Bash in Georgia on Thursday.
The interview will be shown as a primetime special at nine o’clock Eastern time on Thursday.
Following this, Marquardt stated that Chalian, in his capacity as Political Director, will have a part in assisting Bash in the formulation of questions, and he inquired about the problems that Bash will concentrate on.
The response from Chalian was that although the economy is unquestionably the most significant problem, there are a lot of other problems for which “we just haven’t heard from her, yet, in this capacity, as the Democratic nominee.”
The interview comes as Harris faces the pressure of being the Democrat nominee without actually being voted in by the American people.
It is no doubt not lost on the Harris campaign that she is only leading the ticket because her name was on President Joe Biden’s ticket, and the campaign would have lost tens of millions of dollars of already pledged donations if Democrats had put forward any other candidate to be the nominee.
This has spread fear among many and prompted a dreary forecast from Fox News’ Karl Rove, who said during a recent segment for the station that the optimism seen by the Harris campaign could be misplaced.
The analyst cited polling from earlier this week that suggested Harris is performing worse than both President Joe Biden at this time in 2020 and former first lady Hillary Clinton in 2015.
Fox anchor Brett Baire cited a warning that has been offered to Harris where she was told that the practice of avoiding the media and keeping her policy plans close to the vest could be a move borne out of “conceit and foolhardiness.”
Rove responded, saying “She [Harris] needs to be more specific.
“Let’s not be critical of her by saying she has to have a Democrat Congress and a Democrat Senate in order to get these things done.
“Because the same can be said for Donald Trump; he has to have a Republican Senate and a Republican House to get everything done.
“But people want to know where you’re coming from, and they want to know enough about the specifics to get their hands around it.”
Meanwhile, Harris faced mockery and criticism for her inability to do the interview by herself.
“I don’t know if Democrats fully realize how damaging the image of the possible first woman president being incapable of giving an interview alone without the presence of a man to help her is,” said Meghan McCain.
In a post on X, former CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller said:
“Should CNN have insisted on a one-on-one interview with Harris and turned down a joint interview with Harris and Walz?
“Too tough to walk away from.
“But first question to Harris ought to be why should couldn’t appear solo.”
CNN political commentator Scott Jennings said that it was “incredibly weak” that Harris could not do the interview by herself.
He noted that it shows the party does not have confidence in her.
WATCH:
“The last time Harris did any kind of solo interview was when she was sent out as cannon fodder to explain Joe Biden’s debate performance that night,” said political commentator Stephen L. Miller.
“She should probably have to explain why she lied to the country about Joe Biden’s condition.”
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) posted on X:
“More than a month of preparation and negotiations for a *single* interview on a liberal network–and Kamala Harris can’t handle it by herself?
“How on earth can she stand up to Putin and Xi?
“She is dangerously unprepared to be president.”
Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer also questioned why Walz needed to be there.
“Is Harris afraid to stand on her own two feet?” he asked.
“Does she need Walz to take half the questions so she talks less?
“After refusing to do any interviews and hiding for a month, Harris still won’t sit for a 1:1 interview.
“She is weak and not ready for the job.”
The timing of the interview is also raining eyebrows.
The interview will air at the same time that the first full slate of college football games kicks off on Thursday night — 21 games total — after only a few were played over the weekend.
