Hegseth Ends Biden-Era Climate Spending: Pentagon Focused on ‘Deterring and Winning Wars’

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has announced the end of the Pentagon’s Biden-era “climate change” agenda.

Hegseth vowed that climate spending is now over at the Department of Defense as President Donald Trump seeks to eliminate wasteful spending from the federal government.

While slashing wasteful military spending, Trump wants to ramp up the overall defense budget.

Hegseth told Axios on Tuesday:

“There is waste, redundancies, and headcounts at headquarters that need to be addressed.

“There’s just no doubt.”

Hegseth pointed to climate-related spending that former President Joe Biden’s administration classified as a national security priority.

The Defense Department is in the business of “deterring and winning wars,” Hegseth declared.

He warned that the Pentagon is not in the business of “solving the global thermostat.”

Hegseth added that Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, will begin reviewing the Pentagon’s spending “very soon.”

The move is part of Trump’s broader effort to rein in government waste.

The Pentagon is a primary target for wasteful spending.

Trump, who wants to increase defense spending, believes that Musk’s team can salvage “billions of dollars” from Biden’s climate initiatives.

Those funds can then be redirected toward America’s military readiness, according to Axios.

The Pentagon’s budget is more than $890 billion.

It accounts for around half of all federal discretionary spending in the latest fiscal year.

The Defense Department, however, has failed its annual audit for seven consecutive years.

The Pentagon most recently failed an audit in December, Axios reported.

“Let’s check the military,” Trump said on Sunday.

“We’re going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse, and the people elected me on that.”

Meanwhile, Democrats and left-wing judges have been desperately trying to block Trump’s efforts to end waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer money in the federal government.

As Slay News reported earlier, legal scholar Jonathan Turley has asserted that he’s been left stunned by efforts from leftist judges to undermine President Donald Trump’s executive authority.

Turley, a professor at George Washington University Law School, said he’s “baffled” over courts “intruding significantly” on Trump’s agenda.

The constitutional expert was left bewildered after a federal judge extended a temporary restraining order on Monday to block the Trump administration’s buyout offer to federal employees.

On Tuesday, Turley told “Fox & Friends” that the offer is “perfectly within the wheelhouse of the president.”

“I think that Trump is on very solid ground with the buyout,” Turley said.

“I’m still a bit baffled by what the court is doing here.

“If the presidents are allowed to dictate conditions of employees coming into the office, what they’re working on, all of that is part of Article II powers of the president controlling the executive branch.

“I’m not, even today, certain what the constitutional problem is,” he noted.
