A New York high school hockey player has tragically died suddenly after suffering a “sudden medical event” in the middle of a game, leaving onlookers horrified.
Connor Kasin was just 17 years old when he died.
The Long Island teenager’s death was announced in a letter to parents.
Massapequa High School sent a letter to faculty and students confirming the 12th-grader’s death.
The incident occurred on Saturday night.
According to local outlet News 12 Long Island, the letter read:
“It is heartbreaking to report that Connor did not survive.
“His passing is devastating to the Massapequa community, and we offer our deepest condolences to Connor’s family and friends.”
Nassau County police said in a news release that first responders went to the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center where Kasin had collapsed.
Police said “civilians” began CPR until police and medical personnel arrived.
Police were still investigating the incident.

“So sad to learn of the passing of Connor Kasin, a 12th-grade student from Massapequa who tragically passed away while playing in a charity hockey game.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Connor’s family & the entire Massapequa community as they mourn this terrible loss.”

Kasin tragically died during a charity game set up in honor of a fellow student who was killed in a car crash.
The match was meant to celebrate the life of Sabrina Navaretta.
Navaretta was a graduate of rival Syosset High School.
In a statement, Navaretta’s parents said:
“There are no words to convey our heartbreak that we feel as last night was supposed to be a fun night.
“The community came together to celebrate Sabrina’s life and our family’s commitment to help with scholarship, dog rescue, and assisting grieving parents.”
“We would like the Kasin family to know our commitment to you,” the statement added.
“Connor was there to play for Sabrina and our family is here for you.
“Please take the time to grieve and be kind to yourself as the waves of grief can knock you over.
“John and I are here for you when you are ready.”
School officials said grief counseling will be available to students this week.
Kasin’s cause of death has not been revealed.
All other details regarding the circumstances of his sudden passing have been withheld from the public.
