Hundreds of illegal aliens have established an encampment in a public park in Seattle after the city ran out of funding to house them in hotels.
According to local reports, dozens of tents popped up at Powell Barnett Park in Seattle’s Central District neighborhood.
Illegal border crossers from Venezuela, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are living in the park while they demand that taxpayers pay for their permanent housing.
The group of mostly military-aged men had previously camped outside Riverton Park United Methodist Church in Tukwila in early 2023.
However, the Democrat-run “sanctuary city” allocated tax dollars to pay for them to secure a stay at a hotel in Kent, FOX13 Seattle reported.
Now that the funding for their hotel stay has dried up, the illegals are telling local news outlets that they are staying at the park until more funding comes through.
“We’re waiting for help,” Jonathan, a 22-year-old illegal alien from Africa who has never contributed to American society, told FOX13.
“We don’t want to keep moving every month. It’s hard.”
Speaking through a translator, another Angolan man told KOMO News that the illegals are “asking for the government to help us with housing.”
Adriana Medina told KING5-TV in Spanish that the situation in her home country of Venezuela is “very, very difficult for everyone.”
Medina told the outlet that she illegally crossed into the U.S. because government handouts mean things are not so “difficult” in America.
“Even now, we don’t know how much time we’re going to have to camp,” Medina said.
“We don’t have these answers.
“We can’t tell anyone what we’re doing because we don’t know ourselves.”
The city of Seattle told FOX13 that it has “exhausted its allocated funding for migrant shelter and services.”
City officials have now asked the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services to provide additional support.
Meanwhile, the “sanctuary city” of Chicago has just released devastating new figures related to its illegal migrant crisis.
As Slay News reported earlier, the latest crime figures have revealed that, during the first three months of this year alone, over 1,000 illegal aliens from Venezuela were arrested for committing crimes in Chicago.
The news comes amid widespread outrage over additional taxpayer money being used to feed and shelter illegal border crossers.
In the first quarter of 2024, Venezuelan illegal aliens were recorded in the crime figures for:
- 609 arrests for driving/traffic offenses
- 9 violent felonies
- 75 violent misdemeanors
- 313 other offenses listed as non-violent
- 9 other crimes listed as unknown or not listed
The figures were revealed in an analysis of the city’s crime and arrest data by The Chicago Tribune.
Chicago, like many other “sanctuary” cities and states, has been flooded with illegal aliens under Democrat President Joe Biden’s open border policies.
