Joe Manchin Abruptly Tanks Biden’s Pick to Oversee Admin’s Crackdown on Gas Stoves

Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is furious with Joe Biden for making him look foolish on a key vote and just publicly rebuked the president’s radical green agenda.

Sen. Manchin abruptly tanked Biden’s pick to crack down on gas stoves in American homes.

Jeff Marootian is President Biden’s nominee to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the United States Department of Energy.

Manchin pushed back against Biden’s choice and came out in opposition to Marootian.

“While I supported Mr. Marootian’s nomination in December since then the office he’s been nominated to lead has proposed stove efficiency rules that I’ve raised concerns about,” Manchin said.

“While I appreciate that these rules would only apply to new stoves, my view is that it’s part of a broader, Administration-wide effort to eliminate fossil fuels.

“For that reason, I’m not comfortable moving forward with Mr. Marootian at this time.”

DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm hired Marootian in September as her senior advisor for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Granholm told the House Appropriations Committee in March:

“The full range of gas stoves absolutely is not affected.

“In fact, half of the gas stoves that are on the market right now wouldn’t even be impacted.

“The gas stoves that would be impacted are the most expensive gas stoves.

“This does not impact the majority, and it certainly doesn’t say that anybody who has a gas stove would have their gas stove taken away.

“There’s no ban on gas stoves.

“I have a gas stove,” she said.

“It is just about making the existing electric and gas stoves and all the other appliances more efficient.”

“It’s just spreading to more and more appliances,” Ben Lieberman, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, said.

“It seems that almost everything that plugs in or fires up around the house is either subject to a pending regulation or soon will be.

“Consumers aren’t going to like any of it.

“These rules are almost always bad for consumers for the simple reason that they restrict consumer choice.”
