Johnny Depp’s lawyers have hinted that they may now waive Amber Heard’s $8 million judgment because their client’s reputation has been restored.
Depp’s attorneys broke their silence on NBC’s “Today” by slamming the Washington Post for a story insinuating there was a social media smear campaign against Heard.
The story has been corrected three times by the editors of the Post after reporter Taylor Lorenz was caught lying in it.
“That is utterly baseless,” Depp attorney Ben Chew told Savannah Guthrie before saying the claims were “absolutely absurd.”
Depp’s other attorney Camille Vasquez was asked if Depp or anyone on his team paid people to support Depp or trash Heard on social media.
“Categorically false,” Vasquez said.
As to whether Depp will waive the judgment, his attorneys said: “This was never about money for Mr. Depp.
“This was about restoring his reputation and he’s done that.
“We have to be careful what we say but this was about Mr. Depp’s reputation but that was what it was about for him.”

“To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters,” Depp said on TicTok.
“We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together.
“We have walked the same road together.
“We did the right thing together, all because you cared.”
“As Johnny Depp says he’s ‘moving forward,’ women’s rights are moving backward,” Amber Heard said through a spokesperson.
“The verdict’s message to victims of domestic violence is afraid to stand up and speak out.”
“My sense is that it had a lot to do with accountability,” Chew said.
“Johnny owned and was candid about his alcohol and drug issues.
“He was candid about some unfortunate texts that he wrote, and I think it was a sharp contrast to Miss Heard, who didn’t seem, or at least the jury may have perceived, that she didn’t take accountability for anything.”
