Josh Hawley Warns Biden of Major Battle in Senate if He Nominates ‘Woke Activist’ to SCOTUS

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) warned President Joe Biden against nominating a “woke activist” as the next justice on the United States Supreme Court.

After it leaked on Wednesday that Justice Stephen Breyer’s plans to retire after this term, questions have been mounting regarding who will fill the vacant seat on the bench.

Biden had previously promised that he would use race and gender as the main factor if he had the opportunity to put forward a nomination, saying that his pick would have to be black and a woman.

However, Hawley has warned Biden he will face a major battle in the Senate if he pushes a “woke” nominee.

Even though the GOP is in the minority, they do have some leverage due to the power-sharing arrangement Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell made to start the new Congress.

Under these rules, Republicans could block an unsuitable pick by Biden in committee, effectively killing it.

However, the Democrats could, because they are in the majority, try to change the rules to force the pick through.

That would cause total chaos, though, so would be an unlikely course of action.

“Moment of truth for Joe Biden,” Hawley said.

“Will this deeply unpopular and divisive president finally reject the radical elements of his party and nominate someone who loves America and believes in the Constitution?

“Or will he continue to tear apart this country with a woke activist?

“If he chooses to nominate a left-wing activist who will bless his campaign against parents, his abuse of the FBI, his refusal to enforce our immigration laws, and his lawless vaccine mandates, expect a major battle in the Senate.”

And Biden’s Joe Manchin problem has not gone away.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham said that if moderate Democrats like Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., vote for a hard-left Supreme Court nominee, their political careers would effectively be ended — as they “should” be — on Wednesday’s “Ingraham Angle.”

“Now, as a man who has some semblance of common sense, Joe Manchin should never go along with Biden’s court charade,” Ingraham said.

“Now, what are the odds that the state of West Virginia would ever win a case in front of a hard-left court?

“Voting for one of these picks would end Manchin’s political career in West Virginia — … a state that is in an open rebellion now against Biden’s policies.”

“If any of these so-called moderate Dems were living up to their campaign pledges to work with Republicans, they’d demand that Biden’s nominee be someone who could actually win real support, not just a couple of votes from the Republicans,” Ingraham continued.

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton, is reportedly slated to retire, giving Biden the opportunity to fulfill a campaign promise to nominate a black woman to the nation’s highest court.

“If I’m elected president and have an opportunity to appoint someone to the courts,” Biden said in March 2020.

“I’ll appoint the first black woman to the courts.

It’s required that they have representation now. It’s long overdue.”
