Jury Rules in Favor of Johnny Depp in Lawsuit against Amber Heard, Awards Him $15M

Hollywood star Johnny Depp scored a huge win over his ex-wife in court today when a jury decided that fallen starlet Amber Heard defamed the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

The jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages from heard.

Depp filed a $50 million defamation suit against Heard alleging that a 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post damaged his reputation and his career.

Heard described herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse” in the article and did not name Depp.

His lawyers argued it was clear she was referring to Depp because she publicly accused him of domestic violence during their 2016 divorce.

Heard’s lawyers said Depp did abuse their client and that she has a First Amendment right to talk about the subject of domestic abuse.

Heard filed a $100 million counterclaim against Depp after his former lawyer, Adam Waldman.

The seven-person civil jury was made up of five men and two women.

“Your presence shows where your priorities are,” a spokesperson for Heard said of Depp not making the verdict because he is in England.

“Johnny Depp plays guitar in the UK while Amber Heard waits for a verdict in Virginia.

“Depp is taking his snickering and lack of seriousness on tour.”

“Due to previously scheduled work commitments made before the trial, Mr. Depp will not be physically present for today’s 3 pm verdict and will be watching from the United Kingdom,” a source close to Depp said.
