South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has put Liz Cheney and her allies on the now-disbanded Jan. 6 House Committee on notice after her family’s Social Security information was leaked.
The Cheney-led Jan. panel released the Social Security numbers of hundreds of Americans, including President Donald Trump’s former staffers and several other top Republican officials.
The now-disbanded Committee told the Washington Post that 1,900 Social Security numbers belonging to people who visited the White House in December 2020 were “inadvertently” published without redaction.
This a catastrophe for the people on the list as they are now at an “elevated risk” to be victims of identity theft-related crimes.
It is a nightmare to get hit with one of those crimes that can take years to untangle.
Prominent names on the list include Gov. Noem and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
Noem’s kids were even exposed by the leak and now have to deal with having their most sensitive information out there for any crook to grab.
Noem was furious:
“My lawyers have asked the @WhiteHouse, the @USNatArchives, and @BennieGThompson which of them is responsible for leaking the Social Security Numbers of me, my husband, my 3 kids, and my son-in-law.
“What specific measures and remedies will be taken to protect our identities?”

The committee didn’t notify officials of the leak.
Ian Fury, a spokesman for Noem, said:
“To my knowledge, we were not notified.
“The governor was not notified.”
Ben Carson said:
“Whether it was a careless and sloppy handling of records or a deliberate disregard of decorum, either scenario is a perfunctory and callous display of government and a frightening reminder of the current state in Washington.
“President Reagan was a savant indeed — the nine most frightening words to hear are ‘I am from the government and here to help.’”
