Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced Wednesday that he will once again introduce articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, his fifth attempt.
Green, who has been mocked as “low IQ” by Trump, is framing the move as a “participatory” test for Democrats as they struggle to slow Trump’s legislative and political momentum.
“There will be articles of impeachment filed before the Christmas break. This, I pledge,” Green declared at a Capitol press conference.
“We have to participate.
“This is a participatory democracy.
“The impeachment requires the hands and the guidance of all of us.”
Green said he will introduce the measure as a privileged resolution, a procedural maneuver that forces the House to consider it within two legislative days.
Leadership can still move to table the resolution, avoiding a full impeachment vote, which is what happened during several of Green’s earlier efforts.
He also announced plans for a Saturday protest at the Lincoln Memorial to rally support for the effort.
Democrats’ Fifth Impeachment Attempt Highlights Internal Party Discord
The renewed impeachment push comes as Democrats continue to grapple with how to confront President Trump after failing to extract concessions from Republicans during the recent 43-day government shutdown.
Members of the party’s activist wing have increasingly criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for what they see as ineffective leadership.
Some Democrats, including Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, have openly called for new party leadership capable of slowing Trump’s agenda.
At Wednesday’s event, Dave Mytych of the activist group FLARE singled out the top Democrats by name.
“This is what the American people want,” Mytych said.
“They want fighters that hold the line.
“Democrats, are you listening?
“Leader Schumer, are you listening?
“Leader Jeffries, are you listening?”
Green Dodges Questions on Whether Failure Would Embarrass Leadership
Pressed on whether another failed impeachment would reflect poorly on Jeffries and Schumer, Green sidestepped the question.
He pointed out that up to 80 lawmakers have supported his attempts in the past.
“Here’s my perspective. I believe in the Constitution,” Green said.
“People who vote to table the articles are voting against impeachment.”
Green did not say which specific charges he plans to bring this time.
His previous impeachment attempts have included vague accusations of “dastardly deeds,” a phrase that generated widespread mockery at the time.
A Familiar Pattern
The House has impeached Trump twice already, in 2019 and again in 2021, and both times the Senate dismissed the charges.
Green’s serial impeachment filings have never succeeded, but they consistently highlight the internal rift between establishment Democrats and activist factions eager to escalate confrontation with Trump regardless of strategic consequences.
As of now, Democrat leadership has not indicated whether it will support or bury Green’s latest attempt.
