Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed articles of impeachment against Democrat President Joe Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Greene accuses AG Garland of persecuting President Donald Trump with the FBI’s raid of his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
The congresswoman’s resolution claims the attorney general’s “personal approval to seek a search warrant for the raid on the home of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, constitutes a blatant attempt to persecute a political opponent.”
She claims Garland’s “effort to unseal the search warrant for the home of former President Donald J. Trump constitutes an attempt to intimidate, harass, and potentially disqualify a political challenger to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.”
According to Newsmax:
“The search warrant was approved by a federal judge and was unsealed on Friday with consent from the Department of Justice and Trump’s legal team.
“On Thursday, Garland cited high public interest as a motivating reason to have the documents unsealed.
“The warrant suggested the FBI secured classified materials that had been taken to Mar-a-Lago.
“Among the revelations, the documents mention a potential violation of the Espionage Act.
“Republicans, including Greene, have accused the AG and Department of Justice of pursuing Trump for political reasons — foiling his potential run for the presidency in 2024 is often said to be an aim of the alleged harassment.”
Greene told reporters before entering the Capitol to file the impeachment resolution:
“What they’ve been doing to President Trump is political persecution.
“Merrick Garland has abused his position of power as the attorney general to politically persecute Joe Biden’s enemies.
“And the whole purpose of this is to prevent President Trump from ever being able to hold office.
“I’m introducing articles of impeachment on Merrick Garland.
“Because we cannot tolerate this in America, where our great institutions are welded and abused in such a way to impeach people’s political enemies.”
