Matt Gaetz Checkmates Kevin McCarthy: ‘Even AOC Praised Our Methodology’

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) just checkmated Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as a government shutdown looms.

Gaetz will not support continuing resolutions and instead is demanding votes to fund each federal agency separately.

The congressman noted that one of the GOP’s staunchest critics even “praised our methodology.”

According to Gaetz, radical Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said their agenda was “helpful.”

In a statement to the media, Gaetz said:

“We demanded from Speaker McCarthy that we would not take one upper count vote on all the disparate agencies of government to fund them or not fund them.

“The praise that we received, I recall, AOC saying what these Freedom Caucus members are fighting for would be helpful.

“Speaker McCarthy wanted a continuing resolution and after that, we’ll get our spending bills in order.

“I’ve heard the same bullshit for 7 years.

“I got a group of conservatives together and we said, ‘We will never vote up or down for every agency of government ever again.’

“America is currently governed by the Pelosi-McConnell Omnibus, which conservatives opposed.

“The easiest thing to predict is that Mitch would want to extend his own deal.

“We must break the fever and stop governing by Omnibus and Continuing Resolutions.”
