Matt Gaetz Interrupts Kevin McCarthy’s Coronation, Urges Jim Jordan to Run for House Speaker

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) halted House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) coronation and publicly called for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) to run for Speaker of the House.

McCarthy is only a few votes short of locking up the job but the holdouts are not bending leaving him in a tight spot with time running out.

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs is running but Gaetz thinks Jordan has a better shot of knocking off McCarthy.

Gaetz wants a fighter in the job and there has not been a stronger force for the GOP in Congress than Jim Jordan

Gaetz said: “All I want for Christmas is @Jim_Jordan to realize he should be Speaker of the House! Make sure to join me in encouraging @Jim_Jordan to seek the Speakership.”

Gaetz said on Steve Bannon’s show:

“There are things Kevin McCarthy did to erode the trust of the members he needs to vote for him if he wants to be speaker.”

Gaetz said Jordan is “the hardest working and most talented member of the Republican House Conference.”

“The conference never believed that Donald Trump should resign, so to have a leader so far outside of the conference is itself a problem,” he said of McCarthy.

According to Newsweek:

“McCarthy’s opponents have also listed other demands for their support including a return to single subject bills, 72 hours for a final bill text, leadership not getting involved in primary elections, the appointment of conservative Republicans on the House Rules Committee, and a commitment to not raising the debt ceiling, among others.”
