Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has given Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) an offer to join the Republican Party, saying he will be given a chairmanship in the GOP in he switches.
McConnell made the offer to Manchin after the West Virgina Democrat has come under attack from his own party for refusing to vote in favor of Joe Biden’s reckless “Build Back Better” spending bill.
Republicans would “love” to have Sen. Manchin join them,” McConnell said.
The GOP leader said he believes Manchin would “be more comfortable” in the Republicans as his values would be shared and appreciated not mocked.
“Obviously we would love to have him on our team,” McConnell said.
“I think he’d be more comfortable.”
McConnell’s comments are a far-cry from statements made by Mancin’s fellow Democrats, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasip-Cortez (D-NY).
“I think what Senator Manchin did yesterday represents such an egregious breach of the trust of the president,” AOC blasted.
“The Senate adjourned on Friday and then he waited until everyone was on vacation to say, ‘No, I’m not going to vote for this.’
“He waited until there was a moment of minimal pressure, when he didn’t have to go back into the Senate, when all of this stuff was happening.
“This is a very calculated timing.”
Think about how irreparably and dysfunctionally fucked up DC is that Joe Manchin is being demonized for voting in his constituents’ best interests and not blindly rubber-stamping a multi-trillion dollar communist agenda.

The Biden White House also attacked Manchin with a statement accusing him of “a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position, and a breach of his commitments to the President and the Senator’s colleagues.”
McConnell slammed teh negeative reponse, saying:
“Why in the world would they want to call him a liar and try to hotbox him and embarrass him?
“I think the message is, ‘We don’t want you around.’
“Obviously, that is up to Joe Manchin, but he is clearly not welcome on that side of the aisle.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said:
“Joe if they don’t want you we do.
“I don’t know what he will decide to do.
“But I do know West Virginia has gotten increasingly red.
“So, yeah, we’d love to have him. That would change the majority.”
Well-connected Congressional reporter Jake Sherman said of Mitch offering Joe a chairmanship to switch to the GOP:
“This takes it a step further.
“McConnell says he’s spoken to Manchin about keeping the top slot on Energy and Public Works.
“Remember: If Manchin switches parties — no clue if he will, he has said he won’t — McConnell will become majority leader.”
