Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) spread misinformation on social media and was busted by Twitter’s Community Notes fact-checkers.
Pelosi tried to push false claims about the 2016 shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
The former House speaker attempted to twist the event to prop up the Democrats’ radical agenda.
Pelosi said:
“7 years ago, 49 beautiful souls were stolen and more than 50 others were injured in a horrific attack at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.
“Americans continue to pray for the brave survivors, victims’ loved ones, and Orlando’s LGBTQ+ community left forever scarred by this act of hate.
“At that time, the families of the victims, in their grief and grace, pleaded with us to make sure that this does not happen again.
“While progress has been made – including with @POTUS Biden’s new gun safety law last year – more must be done to protect our communities.
“House Republicans must join Democrats in passing legislation to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban and enact universal background checks to save lives and bring an end to the bloodshed.”
Twitter’s fact-checkers didn’t let the lie slide, however.
Community Notes added a label to Pelosi’s tweets that said:
“While it was a horrible event, the evidence that came out during the trial of the shooter’s wife was that it was not motivated by hate of LGBTQIA+.”
