A bill has been introduced to the U.S. Senate that seeks to block Democrats from declaring a “public health emergency” to strip Americans of their constitutional rights by banning guns.
Last week, New Mexico’s Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an unconstitutional ban on carrying firearms in the state’s largest city, Albuquerque, and the surrounding Bernalillo County.
The order is in place for at least 30 days, as Slay News reported.
Gov. Grisham signed an executive order to issue a “public health emergency” to enforce her radical gun-control agenda.
The move has been met with widespread pushback, however, even among some anti-gun Democrats.

The pro-Second Amendment group Gun Owners of America also filed a lawsuit against Grisham for her unconstitutional ban.
The consensus from both sides of the aisle is that the government cannot suspend constitutional rights even for a so-called public health emergency.

Last month, Senate Democrats from the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions voted to strike down an amendment from the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act.
The amendment would have prevented President Biden and his Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from declaring a “public health emergency” to push gun control.
The Braun Amendment is named for Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) who introduced it.
It would protect the American people from being stripped of their God-given rights in the name of “public health.”

Critics of the Braun Amendment insisted that the government would never use a public health emergency to push gun control.
However, critics of the Amendment have been proven wrong by Gov. Grisham just one month later.

This is not the first time that tragedy has been weaponized for gun control, however.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the federal government confiscated firearms from American citizens.
Those same law-abiding gun owners were treated like criminals by authorities who had granted themselves “emergency powers.”
