Newsmax’s Trump Rally Broadcast Humiliates CNN, Gets More Viewers Than CNN Primetime

Newsmax made history on Friday evening by beating CNN’s total viewers across primetime.

CNN was humiliated in the ratings battle after Newsmax broadcast President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally live.

Newsmax’s coverage of Trump’s rally averaged 738,000 total viewers between 8 and 10 p.m.

The numbers helped boost the network’s total average across prime time to 579,000 viewers.

CNN hit rock bottom with 645,000 viewers during Anderson Cooper’s show and averaged an audience of 545,000 on Friday night.

Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy said earlier about airing Trump’s rallies: “We can’t speak to Fox News’s decisions, but we believe this rally was a significant news event that was worthy of coverage.”

According to Mediaite, “Fox News’s Tucker Carlson maintained his audience at 8 p.m., bringing in 2.85 million total viewers.

“Carlson’s show ranked as the second-highest watched program in all of cable news for the day, just behind Fox News’s The Five, which brought in 3.15 million total viewers.”

Newsmax said it is beating CNN by even more than these numbers show:

The Nielsen numbers do not tell the full story. Newsmax is carried in 20 million less homes than CNN, giving it proportionately a much higher rating than its competitor.

The Nielsen numbers do not include Newsmax’s massive OTT streaming audience, which the network estimates often almost doubles the Nielsen rating during Trump rally coverage and other programming.

For the past year, Newsmax has consistently held the position as the fourth-highest-rated cable news channel in the U.S. and a top-20 cable channel in daytime, according to Nielsen.
