Residents of East Palestine, Ohio, are blasting Democrat President Joe Biden’s visit as “too little, too late.”
The visit comes roughly a year after the devastating train derailment in the small rural town.
The incident released toxic chemicals into the environment, jeopardizing the health of the nearby East Palestine community.
Biden refused to visit the site until just this past week, as the 2024 election draws near.
The White House claims Biden put the visit off so as not to interfere with recovery efforts, according to the Daily Caller.
Whatever the case may be, Biden has faced significant criticism for his decision – including criticism from the people of East Palestine.
One resident, named Michael Young, told a local television news station that many residents see Biden’s visit as being “too little, too late.”
“I’ve talked to some people in the town and people have reached out to me and I’ve said the slogan is, ‘it’s too little, too late,'” Young said.
“It took a year for you to come here, and it’s amazing that now you’re coming here just around election time.”
Indeed, Biden critics are claiming that the only plausible reason why Biden has finally decided to make this trip is to help out his reelection campaign by eliminating a significant source of criticism.
Another East Palestine resident named Angela Ware also got behind this idea.
“He’s only coming because it’s election season,” Ware said.
“He doesn’t care. Be should’ve come a year [ago], like he was supposed to.”
Biden finally made the trip to East Palestine on Friday.
ABC News reports:
“Biden was briefed by officials and gave remarks on the need to hold Norfolk Southern, the railroad operating the freight train, accountable for the Feb. 3, 2023, spill.”
The Daily Caller provides more context about Biden’s visit.
Per the outlet, “President Joe Biden made his long-awaited visit to East Palestine, Ohio, on Friday for a quick two hours, before jetting off to the beach in Delaware, his most-frequented weekend vacation spot.”
President Donald Trump – who visited East Palestine not long after the derailment – has also weighed in on the situation.
In a post on social media, Trump wrote:
“It was such a great honor to be with the people of East Palestine immediately after the tragic event took place.
“I got to know so many of the people, in particular the wonderful Mayor, Trent Conaway.
“Biden should have gone there a long time ago—for him to go now is an insult to those who live and work in East Palestine, and the Great State of Ohio, itself.
“I can’t believe anyone wants him there?
“I know he doesn’t want to be there, and even he knows he is making a mistake because he is pandering to people who are smart, politically savvy, and, unfortunately, badly hurt by Biden’s inactions and lack of caring.
“It will be so interesting to see how they meet and greet this FRAUD, and the THUGS that surround him!”
