The scandal at CNN is continuing to sink to new lows as one of the “news” network’s top executives has resigned in disgrace after her affair with ex-boss Jeff Zucker was exposed.
The news comes almost two weeks after former president Jeff Zucker was forced out of his position at CNN over the scandal.
Zucker’s resignation from CNN also came on the tails of allegations against former top anchorman Chris Cuomo, who was recently fired in disgrace.
And now, top marketing executive Allison Gollust resigned, CNN’s parent company announced last night.
However, Gollust did not go quietly, issuing a scathing statement.
In a memo to staffers, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said Gollust resigned after the company launched an investigation into former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo and his brother Andrew.
“Based on interviews of more than 40 individuals and a review of over 100,000 texts and emails, the investigation found violations of Company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices, by Jeff Zucker, Allison Gollust, and Chris Cuomo,” Kilar said.
“We have the highest standards of journalistic integrity at CNN, and those rules must apply to everyone equally.
“Given the information provided to me in the investigation, I strongly believe we have taken the right actions and the right decisions have been made.”
Gollust released a comment addressing her exit Tuesday night.
“WarnerMedia’s statement tonight is an attempt to retaliate against me and change the media narrative in the wake of their disastrous handling of the last two weeks.
“It is deeply disappointing that after spending the past nine years defending and upholding CNN’s highest standards of journalistic integrity, I would be treated this way as I leave.
“But I do so with my head held high, knowing that I gave my heart and soul to working with the finest journalists in the world.”
From NPR:
CNN’s chief marketing officer resigned Tuesday night as the CEO of the network’s parent company, WarnerMedia, released a memo saying that a formal probe found that she was among three top figures at CNN who had violated its official journalism standards and practices.
Allison Gollust is just the latest to be pulled under in the riptide of scandal that started with the sexual harassment allegations against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, led to questions about the behavior of his brother, the former CNN prime-time star Chris Cuomo, and ultimately put the conduct of former CNN President Jeff Zucker under an unwelcome spotlight.
Zucker fired Chris Cuomo, a friend, in December for doing more than he had conceded on behalf of his brother and after a woman said the news anchor had sexually harassed her years ago at ABC News.
Zucker was forced out earlier this month when he had acknowledged he had not disclosed a romantic involvement with Gollust, as company policy requires.
