Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has lashed out at President Donald Trump, claiming that “we all know that he will lose” the 2024 election if he runs.
Ryan, who currently serves as a member of the board at Fox News, made the comments while speaking with Teneo for its “Insights Series.”
The former Republican lawmaker argued that the GOP should choose someone other than Trump for the 2024 nomination.
“I think Trump’s unelectability will be palpable by then,” Ryan claimed.
“We all know that he will lose.
“We all know that he is so much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle, so why would we want to go with that?”
Ryan was speaking with Teneo for its “Insights Series.”
Ryan is vice chairman of Teneo, a public relations and lobbying shop.
Teneo was started by two close associates of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Declan Kelly and Doug Band.
Paul continued:
“The only reason he stays where he is is because everybody’s afraid of him.
“They’re afraid of him going after them, hurting their own ambition.
“But as soon as you get the herd mentality going, it’s unstoppable.
“Whether he runs or not, I don’t really know if it matters.
“He’s not going to be the nominee, I don’t think.
“It’s not like Trump is going to reverse the impression that suburban voters have on him.
“That cake is baked.
“Trump is the Democrats’ weapon against us. He’s a cudgel against us, especially in our swing districts,” Ryan said.
According to a recording of his talk, Ryan named DeSantis, Youngkin, and Tim Scott as his three favorites for the GOP nomination in 2024.
Speaking at the Robin Hood conference before billionaires Steve Cohen and Paul Tudor Jones went on stage, Ryan said he's advising CEOs not to focus on ESG too much as he believes the GOP will win the majority.
"The next shoe to drop is to go after woke corporations," he said.

DeSantis fighting Disney was "really good for him, from a political perspective," Ryan said.
The American Conservative Union is now asking lawmakers vying for leadership positions to sign a pledge saying they won't meet with "woke corporations like Walmart," he said.
